Performances of FRP core rod-HTV SIR sheath interface in a water environment

This research focuses on the performances of a fiber-reinforced epoxy resin plastic core rod and high-temperature vulcanized silicone rubber sheath interface of a composite insulator in a water environment. The influence of coating times of a silane coupling agent in the core rod-sheath interface on the 100, 200, and 300 h water diffusion leakage currents of the short core rod-sheath sample is investigated. Results indicate that the coating times of the silane coupling agent can alter the water diffusion leakage current. This finding reveals that the hydrolysis resistance ability of the core rod-sheath interface can be improved by altering the coating times of the silane coupling agent. Studies on the leakage current and temperature rise of the short composite insulators with various characteristics of core rod-sheath interface prove that water can be stored in the no-adhesion spot of the interface in a composite insulator. The ability of outside water to permeate into the no-adhesion spot of the core rod-sheath interface of the composite insulator through the sheath is also verified by comparing the leakage current of the two water-varnished short composite insulators respectively with the completely coated and uncoated interfaces with a silane coupling agent.
