Testing of the Superconducting Magnets for the SIS100 Synchrotron

The SIS100, a novel heavy ion synchrotron, is the main accelerator of the FAIR complex (Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research), which is currently being constructed in Darmstadt, Germany. Over 400 superconducting magnets have been contracted either at industry or by collaboration partners. In order to fulfil the requirements for quality assurance, the magnets will be intensively tested at ambient and cryogenic conditions. The testing campaign considers mechanical dimension control (including the height of the yoke's gap), electrical tests, and measurements of the magnetic field induction. Two new test facilities were built for the sake of superconducting magnet testing. The first facility is located at the GSI Helmholtzzentrum für Schwerionenforschung GmbH, Darmstadt, Germany. The object is constructed to provide a comprehensive testing program dedicated to series dipole cryomodules. The second test facility is located at the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR), Dubna, Russian Federation, where quadrupole and corrector magnets are going to be tested. This paper presents the status report concerning the magnet production, testing strategy, and capability and extent of development of the test stations.
