Heterogeneous Health Monitoring System Using XMPP-Design and Implementation

Traditional patient monitoring system involves continuous monitoring of vital parameters of patients like temperature, heart rate, ECG etc, by doctor or nurse. Looking at growing population and ratio of doctor to patient, monitoring of critical patient by an entity is becoming an issue. so the solution is nothing but monitoring the patient remotely by system. In remote patient monitoring biological data from patient is collected and transferred to healthcare centre. In this paper the detail implementation of heterogeneous health monitoring system is explained. The system is based on ejjaberd - an extensible Messaging and Presence Protocol (XMPP) application server. The design allows storing sensor data, sensor management and retrieving sensor readings continuously or periodically. We conclude that, XMPP as a communication protocol, suites real time monitoring for remote patient.
