An analysis of deformed flexible wearable patch antenna parameters

Recent developments allow to make antennas from flexible materials and use their flexibility to make some shapes on movable bases, including clothes, shoes, human body and other curved surfaces. Influence of inset fed rectangular microstrip antenna cylindrical deformation on its frequency properties and directivity is investigated. As shown in the paper, flexibility of the materials can improve or more often worsen antenna characteristics depending of deformation type - bending or bowing. The main problems found are significant coupling lost and polarization changing. Comparative analysis of antenna models for 3GPP 42 and 43 frequency bands has shown that at such frequencies there is the difference in antenna performance under deformations, but the general antenna behavior is the same. The results could be useful in geometry choice for 4G and 5G wearable devices antennas.
