Creative commons as activation tools for enabling open educational resources: Toward a new vision of the intellectual property rights in an open education environment

The developments in the information age have caused great and rapid changes in the education system and training in general. Thus, many studies and research works are being carried out to address these new input factors in most fields of human knowledge, especially as we live in this period of transition to a knowledge society with all its swift and profound changes in methods of information processing, publishing fields, and access to resources with its traditional and modern facets. Thus, the development of the education based on modern technologies have become more important and deeper in the recent years, with the shift towards open education based on the provision of open educational resources. In this sense, intellectual property rights acts as the active pillar in continuing the success of the shift towards open education resources in light of the new data presented by these trends towards open and free access in order to share and develop science, it is necessary to find new mechanisms that respond to these visions represented in creative commons that attempts to balance copyright with protection and the right of the user to access.
