Sparse broadband acoustic adaptive beamformers for underwater applications

This work presents the extension of a class of sparsity-promoting adaptation algorithms to a broadband scenario typical of underwater acoustic-communication applications. Structure and algorithm of the proposed adaptive beamformer are detailed and simulation results show its performance. Sparsity in the coefficients allows deactivation of multipliers, resulting in less computational complexity and less energy expenditure without compromising beamforming performance and imposed constraints.
