Imaging the micro-mechanical and micro-structural properties of breast tissue using optical coherence tomography

New techniques are needed to improve intraoperative assessment of tumor margins in breast-conserving surgery. Here, the potential of optical coherence tomography and optical coherence elastography to provide micro-scale, real-time feedback on margin status is presented.
