Estimation of plant biomass and carbon stock for a juvenile reforested mangrove stand using high resolution imaging spectrometer

With climate change programs such as REDD+, the ability to estimate biomass and carbon stock in juvenile plantings would be of high importance for auditing the contribution of the reforestation project by the relevant stakeholders. The ability of high spectral resolution imaging spectrometers to detect dwarf canopies and effectively differentiate them from the background provides an opportunity to adopt this system for newly establish mangrove stands at an operational level. In this study we established an allometric relationship for estimating the biomass and carbon stock of individual mangrove saplings based on its canopy structure, which are related to observable attributes that are extractable from this high resolution imaging datasets.
