Strategical operational modes for isolated solar PV system in battery power management scenario

Increasing energy demands, depleting fossil fuel reserves and exorbitant environment concerns, are forcing to look out for sustainable sources of energy. Solar energy in particular seems to be a highly appealing source of energy due to its huge accessibility throughout the world. However, variability of solar resource during the day-time and its unavailability during the night-time poses a major hindrance in its practical implementation, thus, demanding a stiff power management system to meet the load demand. This paper, elaborates the various strategical operational modes of isolated solar PV system interconnected with the battery storage system. The proposed strategy is capable of drawing power from the grid under energy deficiency conditions. Further, a look out into the 2.205 kW solar PV plant setup along with its simulation results (implemented on MATLAB 2015a platform) for varying solar source and corresponding load conditions are depicted in this paper.
