Heat spot effects on media for perpendicular heat-assisted magnetic recording

This research aims to find the bit error rate (BER) of the heat-assisted magnetic recording (HAMR) system from shifting heat spot position on the perpendicular magnetic recording (PMR) media in along-track direction that focuses on the positions such as −10, −5, 0, 5 and 10 nm, respectively. The thermal William-Comstock (TWC) model into the microtrack model is used for investigating the transition length of the system. This experiment has estimated the heat spot position on media as larger to generate the readback signal of perpendicular HAMR channels and then uses the equalizer based on the minimum mean-square error (MMSE) by defining the PR1 target, 11 equalizer tabs and the monic fixed h

= 1. The decision of data bits utilizes the BCJR algorithm. From the simulation results at 24 dB in the positions at −10 and −5 nm have the lowest bit error rate and the position at 10 nm has the highest bit error rate.
