Comparative results for multiple-reflection physical optics (mrpo) and iterative physical optics (ipo)

The physical optics (PO) approximation for the induced current on a perfectly conducting surface is often used as part of numerical, asymptotic, electromagnetic scattering analysis schemes. A mesh-based representation for the induced current is considered in this paper. The multiple-reflection PO (MRPO) method involves the recursive application of the PO approximation, to model successive internal reflections to the scatterer. Full, inter-element shadowing (visibility) information is taken into account. The iterative PO (IPO) method is similar to MRPO, but a simplified, half-space visibility condition is used, which ignores geometry between an observation point and a source and only takes surface orientation into account. The performance of these methods depend on the specific scattering setup, as well as the iterative update scheme used for the IPO. In this paper comparative results are presented, to study the relative performance of MRPO and IPO. Further results will be reported at the symposium.
