Design of MAW spiral antennas for direction-of-arrival sensing using the cramér-rao bound

This work describes new design guidelines for modulated arm width (MAW) spiral antennas for optimal dual-polarized direction-of-arrival (DOA) sensing. These guidelines lead to an improved field of view over conventional designs. Using a four-arm MAW spiral with a modulation ratio of 1.6 and an expansion factor of 1.8, a four-degree field of view of ±29° in elevation and 360° in azimuth is obtained over a 3.6:1 bandwidth.
