A review of the radio wave propagation through vegetation

As access technologies (such as LTE and 802.11ac) evolve towards emerging, usually higher, frequencies, high-reliability brings new challenges. The provider companies of communications services (internet, multimedia, etc.) expect accurate wireless link planning as part of their customer support, and new research is needed to improve the accuracy of propagation models, particularly in modeling of the effect of obstructions. A significant deficiency in modern path planning tools is being able to accurately model the effect of foliage obstructions. Some models are used widely, notably the RET model, but the mechanisms of this model are cryptic to many practitioners. A short review of the modelling is presented here.
