L. Maystrov and the History of Computer Technology Research in the USSR

Leonid Efimovich Maistrov (1920-1982) is one of the first Russian historians of computing technology. He is the author of two classical publications, "The development of computing machines" (written in 1974 together with I. A. Apokin) and the catalog of computing machines stored in the museums, private collections, and institutions on the USSR (written in 1981 together with O.L. Petrenko). He authored a vast number of articles on different types of arithmometers. His other notable accomplishments include deciphering the marks on tally sticks, defining the role of the abacus in mathematics, and introducing the information about computing devices from the Russian museums for scientific use.
