A Converter Combination Scheme for Efficiency Improvement of PV Systems

This brief proposes a new topology combination scheme to improve the power efficiency of a standalone photovoltaic system as well as achieving the benefit of cost reduction. Instead of traditional approaches of directly utilizing multiple converters, the proposed scheme combines an isolated dc-dc converter with a battery charging converter by sharing a bridge connection. Thus, simpler structure is utilized, and higher power efficiency is achieved especially when the battery operates at discharging mode. In additional to detailed theoretical analysis, experimental results verify the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed concept.
