Development of new material for high performance high-speed train wheels

A new type of ferrite and pearlite wheel material(D2) was developed according to the serving characteristics of high-speed train wheel. The wear resistance, contact fatigue resistance and thermal damage sensitivity were investigated and compared with commonly used ER8 wheel material (D1). The results show that the wear resistance is equivalent to that of D1, the contact fatigue resistance and the thermal damage sensibility are improved. The purpose of improving the reliability and serving life of high-speed train wheel is achieved.
