A new model for determining the thermal effusivity of defects by pulsed thermography

In this work we have developed a model to determine the thermal effusivity of the defects that occur in steel. We used a non-destructive pulsed thermography to know the thermal properties of defects, which need certain industrial sectors. On the basis of a solution of the heat equation in one dimension, and using the finite element method; we calculated by simulation the surface temperatures of defective structures to determine the thermal effusivity of various defects such as oil, wax water and air. Experimental measurements confirmed the results.
