A beam deflector based on gradient refractive index metamaterial

New unit cells are arranged as an array to provide a gradient refractive index and to enforce the propagation of electromagnetic waves in a specific direction. This phenomena creates a new medium with different characteristics (ε

, μ

). Simulated results for the permittivity, permeability and refractive index of unit cells show gradual variation in the refractive index. The refractive index changes from 1.3 to 2.55 over the operating bandwidth.
