A multi-band antenna loaded with DNA-like dual-helix meta-elements for WLAN/WIMAX applications

In this letter, the design of a novel irregular DNA-like left-handed meta-structure is presented. The meta-element consists of four Mirror symmetry helix, between which some intermittent metal rods are introduced. Based on the transmission line theory, an equivalent circuit of the left-handed unit is modeled. And then we design a multi-band antenna by applying the proposed left-handed meta-elements, which are the 2nd-order DNA-like dual-Helix loaded on a rectangular patch. The simulation results show that there are two operational frequencies of 2.53 GHz and 5.59 GHz for the designed antenna, with impedance bandwidths of 1.36 GHz and 850 MHz under −10 dB return loss respectively. It is clear that the demand of WLAN/WIMAX applications could be satisfied, after the surface current and antenna gain are demonstrated and analyzed in detail.
