X-band UWB-LFM signal generation technique based on PLL

A novel UWB-LFM signal generation technique based on PLL is introduced in this paper. In our design, PLL chip with integrated VCO is employed. Ultra wideband signal at high carrier frequency is directly realized by expanding frequency range of VCO. The proposed method has many advantages such as good controllability, low phase noise, high spurious suppression, high integration, small size, low power consumption, and low cost. An X-band LFM signal with 1 GHz bandwidth is achieved in the experiment. The method provides a new way to realize UWB-LFM signal for radar and modern electronic system.
