Numerical simulation of the thermo-electromagnetic properties of superconducting magnet in travelling magnetic field

Simulation of the thermo-electromagnetic properties of superconducting magnet exposed to the travelling magnetic field generated by a traditional stator was performed by resorting to the finite-element technique. A two-stage segregated modeling from a motor model to magnet model with unidirectional data transmissions was employed. Firstly, the motor model was calculated to obtain the magnetic field distribution around the superconducting magnet. Then, the magnet model, based on the bidirectional coupling of the electromagnetic field and thermal field, was calculated when taking the above magnetic field as the Dirichlet boundary to understand how the travelling magnetic field affects the ac loss and resultant temperature with time at different working conditions. The study is aimed to provide a useful modeling technique to observe time evolution of the temperature inside the superconducting magnet in the presence of travelling magnetic field.
