Enhancement of transient stability of synchronous generators using kinetic energy of variable speed wind generators

This paper proposes a new control method for enhancement of transient stability of synchronous generators in power system with variable speed wind generators (VSWG). Kinetic energy stored in a rotor of VSWG is actively used for the transient stability enhancement, which is controlled based on responses of the kinetic energy of each synchronous generator in the power system. The effectiveness of the proposed method has been verified by the transient stability analysis performed for IEEE 9-bus system model, which is composed of conventional synchronous generators, photovoltaic (PV) systems and VSWG.
