Forward- and backward-scattering profiles of selected metallic targets

In this paper, a short review of radar cross-section (RCS) profiles of typical metallic shapes of targets is addressed. The aim is to show that the intensity of forward-scattering usually prevails over backward-scattering, especially at higher frequencies. It is also shown that a large geometrical aspect ratio of typical obstacles leads to more omnidirectional scattering in one of the scattering planes. This may be useful in determining the frequency range of operations of bistatic passive radars utilizing the forward-scattering effect.
