A conformai low-profile series-fed microstrip array for aircraft applications

A low-profile series-fed microstrip antenna and its 8× conformal array are presented. In this paper, the performances of the conformal array are excellent. Its obtained bandwidth is ranging from 0.94f
₀
to 1.06f
₀
with the active voltage standing wave ratio (AVSWR) less than 2.3, where the f
₀
is center frequency of the target band. Moreover, this proposed microstrip array can realize frequency scanning (±15°) in elevation plane and phase scanning (±30°) in azimuth plane, simultaneously. In addition, the profile is only about λ
₀
/25, which is very promising for aircraft applications. The detailed structure and simulated results of the proposed dual circularly polarized sub-array antenna will be presented.
