Design of radiation pattern reconfigurable antenna using metasurface

This paper proposes a radiation pattern raconfigurable antenna (RPRA) with the structure of meta-surface(MS). The antenna consists of two parts: a special MS and a slot antenna. It has good directionality, low profile and high gain. By controlling the PIN diode switches, the equivalent length of the gaps can be changed significantly. In this way, we achieve the performance of radiation pattern reconfigurable. By changing the different states of the switches, three radiation directions can be achieved. The RPRA is studied and designed to operate at 5GHz which is widely used in wireless communication system. The return loss and 3-D radiation pattern simulated by High Frequency Structure Simulator can be shown to prove the achievement of the proposal function. In addition, the working frequency of the antenna in this paper is from 4.95GHz to 5.05GHz and the peak gain can reach 9-10dB with good directionality.
