The conceptual discussion of the long-distance public passenger transportation system

As the social economy, urbanization and city expansion develop synchronously in China, new requirements on the planning, safety maintenance and optimal performance of transportation, particularly on public transportation, are put forward. This paper conducts a detailed conceptual study on a novel bus-type travel means-long-distance public passenger transportation system (LPPT), which can strength the livability of city communities and travel mode diversification. This long-distance public passenger transportation system (LPPT) lays more focuses on its safety, serviceability and accessibility attributions in terms of providing fixed transfer stations along highways, serving cities and towns in different hierarchies to stimulate more travel and infrastructure demands, expanding the operation lines to the non-critical traffic zones. By taking a quantitative SWOT-AHP analysis in this study, the priorities of threats and weaknesses of the long-distance public passenger transportation system (LPPT) are estimated relatively low and the consistency ratio (CR) is also less than 0.1. Thus, the good implementation ability of the LPT system is proved. All in all, the study in this paper suggests a potential new direction of the long-distance public transportation system make full use of traditional coaches, offer more travel opportunities and balance the economic development among cities and towns.
