An Efficient Text Entry Model for Scanning Ambiguous Keyboard

Text based communication plays vital role in human interaction. Due to the dominance of physical and cognitive health problems the group of growing old people is becoming notable in the entire population. Many text entry systems based on human computer interaction have been designed and developed to improve the communication for disabled and aged persons. There is still need of efficient text entry model to enhance the overall efficiency of text entry systems. Based on analysis of different scanning ambiguous keyboard (SAK) layouts, we proposed an efficient text entry SAK reference model for low bit text entry systems, which require a minimum input signal, one bit, for text entry especially beneficial for people with disability. Two optimized reference designs are drawn based on this model. User studies are conducted with native English speakers and patients to test the one bit system. The results prove that system is highly efficient and easy to use for disabled.
