Chapter Abstract:
This chapter addresses various layered protocols in relation to Internet security, and shows which are available for use with which applications. The Transmission Control Protocol (TCP)/Internet Protocol (IP) suite includes not only lower‐layer protocols (TCP, UDP, IP, Address Resolution Protocol (ARP), Reverse Address Resolution Protocol (RARP), ICMP, and Internet Group Management Protocol (IGMP)), but also specifies common applications such as the World Wide Web (WWW), e‐mail, domain naming service, login, and file transfer. The chapter also presents a discussion on network management services, routing protocols, remote system programs, and social networking services. It also considers smart IT devices, network security threats, internet security threats and computer security threats.
