IPv6 FOR IoT AND GATEWAY

The Internet Engineering Task Force started work on the design of the next version of the Internet Protocol (IP), IP version 6 (IPv6). There were two main goals for the design of IPv6: increase the number of available addresses and simplify the protocol to make it faster for newer networking technologies. Just as with IPv4 for the Person‐to‐Person Internet today, the use of IPv6 for the Device‐to‐Device (D2D) Internet of Things (IoT) provides the necessary interoperability. Without the IPv4 interoperability today, people might need completely different applications to talk to different websites or worse completely different computers. An alternative for dealing with the incompatibility is to insert other devices, Gateways, to translate between the incompatible protocols. In order to translate protocols, a gateway must, in general, decrypt the message or data coming from one network and then reencrypt the data or message to send to the other network.
