IN‐VEHICLE HEALTH AND WELLNESS

This chapter provides a detailed overview of the in‐vehicle technology enablers for health and wellness (H&W) solutions. It outlines the top H&W features in the automotive industry; focuses on the technical challenges for implementing in‐vehicle H&W products and services. The automotive industry is expanding beyond the traditional concerns of cars and transportation into personalized ownership experiences that would enhance the connected lifestyle of its customers. One of the major challenges for the automotive industry in the 1990s was the rapid growth of electronics features. Built‐in technologies are enabled through hardware the automotive original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) built into their vehicles, such as the onboard spoken dialog system or the embedded modem that allows the vehicle to connect to the internet directly. Beamed‐in products and services are enabled through harnessing the power of cloud computing and data storage by leveraging the connectivity brought in by consumer devices or by a secure embedded connectivity platform.
