Persistent effects of voluntary and reflex activation on the stretch reflex at the human ankle

Persistent effects of muscle activation on the stretch reflex were assessed by comparing responses to pulse displacements applied before and after a period of voluntary contraction and/or random perturbation. Substantial changes in the shape and amplitude of the response were found to persist for more than 60 seconds following activation.
