Amplitude adaptive ASDM circuit

This paper provides an analysis of Amplitude Adaptive Asynchronous Sigma-Delta modulator (AA-ASDM) and shows its implementation in electronic circuit. In comparison to ASDM, AA-ASDM produces a time-varying maximum value function of the input signal and applies it in the feedback loop of the circuit to reduce the switching rate of the output trigger, and thus the power consumption of the system when wireless applications are considered. It is shown that AA-ASDM is particularly advantageous for the signals having wide dynamic range, the mean absolute values of which are small in comparison to their maximum absolute values. Different circuit simulations are performed and analysis and modeling of noise influence on quality of signal reconstruction is provided.
