Optimal design of the wound field synchronous reluctance machines to improve torque by increasing saliency ratio

Salient pole wound field synchronous machines (WFSMs) are widely used for various electric power generation, such as hydro and wind generators [1], because there is free of permanent magnet and it can be directly controlled by the DC winding. In this paper, design optimization techniques for the WFSM with single flux barrier configuration were investigated and then optimized the width of flux barrier and location of the single flux barrier by the Kriging Method and Genetic Algorithm. To verify the contribution of the optimized model, the basic and proposed models are adopted for comparison by a 2-D finite element method (FEM).
