Modified MPPT control for small wind turbines to provide dynamic frequency support in islanded microgrids

This paper presents an analysis of the main maximum power point tracking (MPPT) methods used for small wind turbines, from the perspective of providing dynamic frequency support in islanded microgrids (MGs). For this purpose, three MPPT algorithms are considered, which are adapted to operate in two modes, namely in normal and deloading regimes. The second mode of operation allows the wind turbine to operate with a certain power reserve, which can be released to support the MG frequency when necessary. A comparative analysis is accomplished by means of simulation results.
