Energy management optimization within the Electric Mobility system

Electric Mobility can produce a considerable impact on the rational use of energy through the appropriate design and management of the Grid - Vehicle system. Starting from the fact that electricity is the most effective vector for transferring the energy from “well to wheel” in terms of efficiency and environmental quality conservation, with the European mix of primary energy sources used for electricity production. The key factors for an effective Electric Mobility system are: - Strategic location, sizing and interfacing mode of the power transfer infrastructure, - Communication system Vehicle-User-Infrastructure linked and coordinated with the Traffic Management Service, - Interoperable and user friendly Vehicle-Grid power transfer Interface structures. The European Project FABRIC, under advanced development, is aiming to analyze and testing ways and modes of supplying energy from grid to vehicle with the technology of magnetic flux wireless power transfer through resonant electric circuits. The technology is developed addressing the application of power supply from the infrastructure to the vehicle in motion, interoperable with infrastructure for charging in static mode or with vehicle at very low speed. Three solutions of circuit configuration with different characteristics of frequency and power are under development and testing by Vedecom, Politecnico di Torino and SAET, to analyze the system response, in view of application to different vehicle classes. International standards are under development by SAE, ISO, IEC, UL and ETSI. The target is to reach an harmonized body of prescriptions as a guideline for the development of an interoperable system. The wireless power transfer technology, supported by an interactive ICT communication management and applied in interoperable static and dynamic modes can open the way for a wide extension of the Electric Mobility.
