Influence of external factors on characteristic parameters of metal oxide arrester

Influences of external factors on characteristic parameters of metal oxide arrester (MOA), such as temperature, humidity and chargeability, were studied in this paper. The results suggested that: with the increase of temperature, the equivalent impedance of MOA decreased exponentially, and the current characteristic parameters of MOA increased rapidly, while the DC reference voltage could be kept constant. The characteristic parameters of MOA increased linearly with the increase of the equivalent salt density, which had uniform distribution on the outer insulation surface. With the change of chargeability, the continuous operating current of the arrester had linear change, but the three harmonic and fundamental of the resistive current changed with exponential trend.
