Further optimization on Type II terminal unit in active chilled beam system

In this paper, we perform a series of regression analysis on Type II terminal unit proposed in [1]. More geometric details are investigated for enhancing the entrainment performance of the terminal unit. A further simplified CFD model of the terminal unit is built for facilitating the simulation process. The structure of terminal unit is separated into several segments and arcs. Through sensitivity analysis, we can find the ones that have strongest correlation with entrainment ratio, and their lengths and angles are targets of our optimization. Through the optimization process, the dimensions of terminal unit can be determined. To test thermal comfort of room occupants, the streamline of discharged air flowing inside the conditioned room is simulated by a ceiling attachment test. The results shows that the air discharged from the optimized Type II terminal unit can well attach to the ceiling and will not blow the occupants directly, which proves that the optimized Type II terminal unit is a well designed product.
