Contributions regarding the obtaining and characterization of new titanium based alloys for medical applications

This paper presents the design of a new titanium alloy - TiMoW - for medical applications with high mechanical and corrosion characteristics and a modulus of elasticity similar to that of bone material. While working on the alloy, a certain series of parameters was taken into consideration, such as the bond ordinator (Bo), the energy level of metal d-orbital (Md), the electron density defined by the raport between electron's valence and atoms (e/a) and the Mo equivalent. These parameters can predict the domain from the faze equilibrium diagram. The stability of faze β in titan based alloys, especially Ti-15Mo, is defined by the growth of Bo and the drop of Md and through an increase in electronic density, e/a and the Mo equivalent.
