A connectionist model for cerebrovascular accident risk prediction

Medical decision-making can be a difficult task even for human experts. They can be helped by some automatic tools that are developed to offer suggestions when a decision has to be made. The system presented here uses artificial neural networks (ANN) in order to make predictions regarding the risk of Cerebrovascular Accident (CVA). The aim of this paper is to show that these intelligent (but artificial) models can simulate human behavior, offering a real help for medical life. Even though they provide solutions, it has to be emphasized from the beginning that these decisional systems are not meant to substitute human experts, as the final decision is always made by a physician.
