Wireless neural stimulator based on two-port SAW delay line and AC/DC converting interface

A wireless and chipless neural stimulator was developed by utilizing surface acoustic wave (SAW) delay line, diode-capacitor interface, sharp metal tip, and two antennas to stimulate neurons in the brain. The SAW delay line replaces existing complex wireless transceiver systems and enables chipless and wireless interrogation system. Diode-capacitor interface converts AC signal to DC and induces a stimulus pulse to the sharp metal probe. By varying input RF power and shielding the antenna with EM absorber, stimulation pulses with different amplitude and duration time were successfully obtained at sharp metal probe.
