Technology Developments in Catalog Discovery

Fundamental to all activities in space surveillance has been the ability to create and maintain an accurate, orderly digital catalog of all resident space objects (RSOs) orbiting Earth. And essential to the establishment of such a catalog are the following: 1. Detection and tracking of new RSOs and their addition to a catalog; 2. Discrimination of the new RSOs from one another, using various metrics to identify them uniquely in the catalog.
