Comparative analysis of downlink scheduling algorithms for LTE femtocells networks

3G networks evolve to Long Term Evolution (LTE) in order to satisfy the increasing demands of data rates in both downlink and uplink, OPEX/CAPEX operators' requirements and needs for low service delay. LTE network is characterized by a scalable bandwidth capacity and ability to inter-operate with previous cellular technologies. In this paper, we consider a heterogeneous LTE network consisting of macro cells and femtocells. Femtocells are randomly deployed in macro cell area in order to improve indoor coverage as well capacity enhancement. Mixed types of traffic are considered ranging from real time to non real time flows, and quality of service is evaluated in term of throughput, packet loss ratio, fairness index and spectral efficiency. The aim of this study is to show limit of same algorithm in LTE system and also to propose candidate algorithms for next generation wireless systems.
