A multiagent based hierarchical control for Microgrid cluster stability enhancement

Energy management system (EMS) plays a crucial role in Microgrids. It is responsible for the power balance between generation and consumption. Different architectures for EMS are possible: the centralized, decentralized and hierarchical. The hierarchical is a good candidate to smooth the transition from the existing power management system to the Microgrid (MG) management configuration. Besides, multiagent systems have proven their flexibility and adaptability in MG context. This paper implements a hierarchical multiagent EMS (HMAEMS) that manages a MG cluster. Each MG is managed by a dedicated multiagent EMS that performs power dispatch with the objective of minimizing power exchange with the grid. Moreover, HMA-EMS manages an active power support at the distribution feeder. The implemented system has proven its reliability and the effectiveness of the proposed management scheme.
