Study on ventilation of indoor substation main transformer room based on COMSOL software

To provide enough power for modern cities as well as elegant appearance of urban city, the indoor substation has been widely constructed. But the poor ventilation problem of main transformer room also appears. Although the traditional calculation method of air supply volume of ventilator is easy to use, the factor of air surrounding the transformer is not under consideration. So in this paper, a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) numerical model of the main transformer room is discussed, taking Guangzhou Xiancun indoor substation as research object. The COMSOL software is used to simulate the flow-thermal field of main transformer room. By Comparing simulation results with actual measurement results of outlet and radiator via infrared thermal imager, the validity of COMSOL simulation is proved. Based on it, two sets of fan are added to inlet and outlet of the model respectively to improve ventilation. We found that installing air supply fan in the bottom of the transformer room is the optimal method for ventilation, under the condition of same air speed and same sets of fan. This investigation is helpful to a better indoor substation design.
