Full digital architecture for selective protection coordination in low voltage electrical installations

We propose a digital architecture for selective coordination between low voltage circuit breakers. An Ethernet link is used to interchange telegrams, according to a dedicated protocol, which contain status and alarms, including protection pickup and current direction. Telegrams are sent and received by circuit breakers, which can then enable, delay or block trip according to the received information. The proposed architecture allows fully selective schemes to be implemented in critical power systems, e.g. marine installations operated as a closed-loop. Self-diagnostic functions can be additionally implemented.
