Exploration of the Innovative Medical Talent Training Based on Problem-Based Learning in Digital Image Processing Teaching

Objective To explore the effectiveness of cultivating the innovative medical talent by problem-based learning (PBL) in digital image processing course. Methods Undergraduates majoring in biomedical engineering and information management were divided into experimental and control group. The experimental group was applied PBL mode in digital image processing teaching and the control group was taught with the traditional teaching method. The data from self-assessment questionnaire, terminal examination and expert evaluation was collected to reflect the effectiveness of developing innovation ability, and was statistical analysis. Results The scores of analytical reasoning and all-round ability test in experimental group were higher than in control group. There was a significant difference of scores between two groups (P<;0.05). Relative to the traditional teaching method, PBL mode was beneficial to improve students' innovation ability, including capabilities of self-directed learning, problem analysis, information retrieval, teamwork, critical thinking, imagination, etc. More important, students who insisted on studying subsequent courses by using PBL got a sustainable development of innovation ability. Conclusion PBL mode is a more effective and feasible method for the cultivation of innovation ability than traditional teaching mode of digital image processing course.
