Metamaterial inspired compact microwave antenna with CRLH TL unit cells

Two metamaterial antennas based on CRLH transmission line is proposed in this paper. The first antenna is modeled based on the mushroom structure and radiates at 5.5GHz. A modification to the basic structure is done to obtain a multiband antenna that resonates at 4.6GHz and 6.2GHz. Both the proposed antennas are very compact with dimension of 16×14×1.6 mm and it is printed on FR4 substrate. Both the antennas can be used for WLAN and point to point communication applications.
