Comparison between stages connections of DC converters for street lighting system based on LED

This paper presents a comparative study between different types of stage connections of DC-DC converters used in street lighting systems based on LEDs. One of the connections is based on the technique known as Reduced Redundant Power Processing (R
²
P
²
) and the other is the traditional series connection. The SEPIC and Buck-Boost converters were implemented in the power factor correction and control stages, respectively. Both of converters operate in discontinuous conduction mode. Through the obtained experimental results in open loop one can verify the performance of each connection configuration. A discussion is made about the advantages and disadvantages of each connection in order to assist the designer when choosing which connection to use depending on design requirements.
