Multi-floor PPP model for performance analysis of indoor wireless networks

In this work, a multi-floor Poisson point process (MFPPP) model is proposed to analyze the performance of wireless networks inside a building, where the impact of penetration loss and floor height on the network performance is taken into consideration. According to the proposed MFPPP model, the coverage probability of the cross-floor max-signal-to-interference-plus-noise-ratio (SINR) association (CFMSA) are first derived, and then, for comparison, two typical schemes, i.e., the single-floor nearest association (SFNA), the single-floor max-SINR association (SFMSA) are also analyzed for this situation. Besides, the average achievable rate is subsequently analyzed based on the coverage probability. Numerical results verify the correctness of theoretical analysis, and show that the CFSMA scheme achieves the highest coverage probability for indoor multi-floor networks. Moreover, there exists an optimal penetration loss to achieve the best network coverage for the CFMSA scheme.
