Evaluation of power quality experience in UCSI University North Wing Campus

This paper presents an evaluation of power quality, experienced at UCSI University's North Wing Campus. A power quality recorder is installed at the main feeder switch board for 24/7 campus wide monitoring and recording. It is found from the recorded data that the university campus experiences up to 4 power quality abnormally monthly. There are voltage sags, interruptions, oscillatory transients and flickers. From the evaluation it is found that interruption and oscillatory transient are caused within the campus, others are caused from outside the campus. The campus also experiences up to three consecutive voltage sag within 1.5 second interval. It is also found that voltage sag have high correlation to the weather and the flicker has some correlation with the voltage sag magnitude. The impact of voltage sag to the campus equipment has been evaluated using the ITIC acceptability curve. In summary, this paper provides an insight of power quality disturbances that experienced by the campus electrical supply.
